Ability Shetland Staff Challenge!

Day 1! ✨️

Charis, Megan and Marni made it from the Unst Leisure Centre to Belmont with a sprint finish to catch the ferry to Yell ????????‍♀️????????‍♀️

Stephanie cycled through Yell stopping along the Sellafirth Hall where Ability Shetland helped to put in a Mud Kitchen! ????????‍♀️

Holly walked from Toft to the Mossbank Hall to meet the Mossbank Adults Social Club for lunch! Elouise, the member's pioneer from the Co-op provided us all with lunch which was much appreciated ????

Why Unst?

We started our fundraiser in Unst today as we have 2 clubs based in Baltasound. We have an Intergenerational Club that meets fortnightly. All ages come along to learn and socialise together. They enjoy cooking, card games and sports - amongst other things. ????

Our 2nd club in Baltasound is our children's after school sports club. They are very active and love old school games such as 'Whats the Time Mr Wolf?' as well as team sports and physical activity. ????

YELL - did you know?

Ability Shetland donated mud kitchens and accessible picnic benches to the Sellafirth Hall during lockdown so children and their families could continue to meet socially.

Pop along if you're in Yell and have a go!

Why Mossbank?

We finished our Day 1 challenge at Mossbank Hall where we joined one of the clubs that we host there, our Adult Social Club. They meet fortnightly and enjoy arts and crafts, themed activities, trips out, cooking and gardening. They're a very creative bunch!

During term time we also have a Youth Club who meet every week for fun and games at the hall. All children from the community are invited to come along.

Day 2! ✨️

Holly and Wilma completed their 8.6 mile walk from the Mossbank Hall to the Brae Hall & Youth Centre where our North Mainland Holiday Club is held ????????‍♀️????????‍♀️

Charis, Megan and Marni made the 10.6 miles from the Brae Hall & Youth Centre to the Hillswick Hall where we hold a youth club ????????‍♀️????????????‍♀️

Stephanie ran/walked from North Roe, where we hold a youth club, through Ronas Voe to the Hillswick Hall to round off another 9 miles!????????‍♀️

Afterwards, the Breawick Cafe kindly hosted us for lunch which we are very grateful for ????

Thank you to everyone who waved, tooted, gave us space on the roads and stopped to pop donations in our tubs - it is all so appreciated ????

Day 3! ✨️

Stephanie and Holly set off from Brae to Voe then through the Alps to Gonfirth today, bagging another 8.3 miles ????????‍♀️????????‍♀️

Charis, Megan and Marni set off from Gonfirth for a 7.9 mile walk - passing by the West Mainland Lesiure Centre, Eid Hall & Rankin Lounge, and Michaelswood which are often visited by our Holiday Clubs, before finishing their walk in Bixter! ????????‍♀️????????????‍♀️

A massive thank you to Orginal Cake Fridge- Shetland for providing us with juice and cake to keep us going ????

Day 4- OVERNIGHT WALK COMPLETE!

At just after 11pm last on the 9th of June, Stephanie, Holly, Charis and Megan left the Happyhansel school and Waas playpark to walk a marathon to Lerwick by morning.

Happyhansel is used by our West Side Saturday Club and Ability Shetland helped to install the accessible swing and roundabout at the park there!

The lasses met Wilma and Catriona at the Staneyhill Hall which is often used by various clubs, including 3 Adult Social Clubs and a parent and toddler group.

They then went past all of the club venues in town - Bell's Brae Primary School, Islesburgh, Clickimin, Anderson High School and Sandveien Neighbourhood centre - before finishing their walk at Fjara for breakfast ????

We would like to extend a massive thanks to:

- Odin & Adeline for staying up and meeting us in Bixter

- Ann for the water and biscuits left at the end of her road

- Shelby for providing hot drinks and fancies at the end of the Cott Road

- May and Dougie for being our support vehicles and carrying supplies

- Fjara for providing us with breakfast at the end of our walk

- absolutely everyone for their support, donations and kind gestures along the last 4/5 days ❤️????

We are so overwhelmed with everyone's kindness and generosity ❤️????

Lots of love, the Ability Shetland Team ????
